Ah, census time (humor)
Well I got my census in the mail a week after I got a letter saying the census will be coming in the mail. So let's open it up and see what it's asking...
Name: Last, First, MI
Hmm, so does Winterclaw go in my last name field or my first name field? There aren't any instructions if you have only one name. Better leave it blank.
Sex: Male/Female
No yes please option... No I'd rather get married first option... so am I answering what I am or what I want? Better leave it blank so I don't get any weird mail in the future.
Age
None of your bloody business.
On to the next question... looks like hispanics aren't a race but then it asks you what kind of hispanic you are. If hispanics aren't a race why is the census even bothering with them? While I'm thinking about it, if someone is a hispanic what is he supposed to put as his race? They aren't european so we can't call them white. Asians since they originally came from asia? Indians since they are indians from south of the border? Leave it blank? Anyways it doesn't apply to me. Next question.
Race
Hmm, there's no checkbox for chocobo so I'll just mark other and fill it in.
Do I sometimes stay somewhere else?
That's none of your business. Plus I don't see any options for guildhall, second life, or facebook.

Consider the lesser of two evils: fill out the census, or have a census worker who has had ten years to prepare for casing your neighborhood come and ring your bell for a little face to face

I answered only the number of people, the age, and that they do not reside elsewhere.
Nothing else is any of their business. It's a census. They can count with what I provided. No chance whatsoever that they can have my phone number. Screw that. I'm on the Do Not Call list for a reason.

Unfortunately, their business or not, you can still get fined if you don't fill everything out. The best I can tell, in the original census age, race, and gender questions were used so this one doesn't bother me all that much.

The fine is $100 for refusing to fill out the census. $500 for filling out false information. The last time someone was actually fined? 1960.
It's a paper tiger.

In a world where we are supposed to all be equals and not look at race as an issue we still have to sign a paper saying what our skin color is. So ironic.

Painbringer, those are local projects and should be funded by your city and county, not things that all of us should be taxed for. The purpose of the federal government is to maintain the nation's foreign relations, provide a military for common defense, establish a national currency and keep it's values up, and a handful of other things proscribed in the constitution. It is not supposed to be doing the things that it does far too often.

Alex Jones was the guest on Coast to Coast last night, and he had two interesting facts about the census that I didn't know:
1. The purpose of the census is to calculate how many Representatives each state gets for the House of Reps. This makes sense.
2. The Constitution itself requires the Census to be taken, but the only question that is necessary to be answered is how many people live in that house/apt/abode. No other questions must be answered and you can't be penalized for not answering them, though you could get a visit from a census worker.
He had a bunch of other bs that Noory didn't challenge him on, but these 2 things seem pretty solid.

Yeah, the fact that the census decides how many representatives a state gets and their number of electoral votes. It's also why slaves only counted 3/5ths in the constitution. The anti-slave north wanted slaves not to be counted in the census and the pro-slavery south wanted the slaves to be counted full (even if they couldn't vote). In the end, James Wilson proposed 3/5ths so that both sides would agree on it.
I also think that's why the dems want to count illegal immigrants, they are hoping more will be in democratic areas to boost the number of democratic votes in congress.

I don't really worry about the census questions. You are not telling the government anything that they couldn't find out about you in fifteen minutes. Why worry, Be Happy.
Edit: Maybe I should have said an hour.

The reason why Rocky is for the exact point that MMSDome made. This country is supposed to be fostering equality (complete bullshit with policies like affirmative action, hate crime legislation that only works one way and protected classes...but just pretend). Having a census that asks racial questions only further encourages people to air grievances based on collectivism.
Article 1, Section 2, Paragraph 3...
"The actual Enumeration shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years, in such Manner as they shall by Law direct. The Number of Representatives shall not exceed one for every thirty Thousand..."
Seems pretty simple and straightforward to me. It was written to determine the number of people there are for the purposes of representation and that's it.

We weren't all that fostering of equality in our fledgling days.
The final bill, Statute 2 of March 1, 1790, provided that census marshals and assistants be appointed. The marshals were directed to:
cause the number of the inhabitants within their respective districts to be taken; omitting in such enumeration Indians not taxed, and distinguishing free persons, including those bound to service for a term of years, from all others; distinguishing also the sexes and colours of free persons, and the free males of sixteen years and upwards from those under that age.
This is the reason the constitution is interpreted by the Supreme Court of it day. This way the Constitution has an ebb and flow from right to left and always should end up somewhere in the middle for the over scope of things.

By your response I think it's a safe bet you are one of the "living document" types, I respectfully disagree with that view. It's when people try to reinterpret the Constitution that things go horrifically wrong (see: Commerce Clause). Funny how one word 'regulate' can lead to so many unforeseen consequences.
